So my blog this week is not all that exciting. However, it is a topic that is personal to me. I work at Buckhead Cafe, and little over a year ago, we started using social media to advertise for our company. If you didn't know, Buckhead is owned my the same man who started Mariah's downtown. Our owner and one of our managers decided to get involved with Facebook and Twitter in order to increase awareness of the two restaurants. Each has its own Facebook page.
Everyday we post new specials for our fans. At first, not many people new about our Facebook page. We would get half a dozen people each week who would take advantage of our deals. Honestly, we kind of got discouraged because not many people knew of our page. We then decided to be very active in getting the word out. We put flyers in all of our togo bags. We held contests among employees to see who could recomend the most fans to our page in a week. As the year progressed, more and more people bacame fans of our page and took advantage of our deals. Some of our customers are avid about using the deal almost everyday!! Look at the links above to see how many fans we have now! (and then like us :0 )
This post is a simple example of how you should not give up on your campaign if it does not take off very fast. Keep trying and get everyone involved in the effort!!
Check out our new Mariah's app for the iPhone!!
I like what you all are doing with the competition among employees to see who can recommend the most fans to your Facebook page. You can't generate excitement about your business and its promotions if the internal forces aren't excited. After all, they are a vital part of spreading the word, especially in the beginning, because they are the first ones who know about promotions.
ReplyDeleteThis can be true in many instances where a company sets up a Facebook page, but doesn't receive any hits due to a loss of value if not used to it's full potential. The customers were excited by the benefits that Buckhead had to give them. Unfortunately, sometimes a Social media tool, such as Facebook isn't enough without a little bit of incentive.
ReplyDeleteI like your post, Rob! I love Buckhead and I'm definitely one of those people who enjoys using coupons or offers from different companies. Thanks for posting about this! I actually had no idea that Mariah's and Buckhead used social media but I should've known. Do the employees post on the Facebook page or is there someone who has that as their job function?
ReplyDeleteI think your post is a prime example of how social media sites can boost a company's profile. Just because a company makes a Facebook or Twitter page doesn't mean there will be instant success. A company must be willing to put in the effort and work in order for it to work.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm a huge fan of Buckhead :)
